Subject and Verb Agreement


Choose the correct form of the verb in the following sentences.

1. Neither Bill nor Mary (is/are) going to the play tonight.
Answer : Is
Reason : The subjects connected by the word “nor”, so the verb is singular.

2. Anything (is/are) better than going to another movie tonight.
Answer : Is
Reason : “Anything” is an Indefinite pronouns so it’s singular.

3. Skating (is/are) becoming more popular every day.
Answer : Is
Reason : When gerunds are used as the subject of a sentence, they take the singular form of the verb. “Skating” is a gerund

4. A number of reporters (was/were) at the conference yesterday.
Answer : Were
Reason : Because reporters are plural nouns and the sentence is past tense so the answer is were.

Reason : Everybody is singular subject, that’s reference to his/her so use has!

TOEFL Tips : Listening Comprehension

TOEFL (Test Of English as a Foreign Language) is a test profiency which is used to measure someone english language skill.

In TOEFL including 4 types of test :

1. Listening Comprehension
2. Structure and Written Expression
3. Reading Comprehension
4. Test of Written English

I will share the tips about TOEFL, this article will explain tips to do the Listening Comprehension.
Let's start!

PART A :
In Part A, you will hear short conversations between two speakers. At the end of each conversation a third voice will ask a question about what was said. The question will be spoken just one time. After your hear a conversation and the question about it, read the four possible answers and decide which one would be the best answer to the question you have heard. Then, on your answer sheet, find the number of the problem and mark your answer.


1.         A. He said he was sorry that he had not announced the test sonner.
B. He was sorry that he had forgotten to bring the tests to class.
C. He was sorry that he hadn't given the test earlier.
D. He said he was sorry that he had not given the results of the test sooner.
